We all know that one of the last steps in the organizing process is to containerize, riiiiight? And while the Bneato Bar team will always try to repurpose what a client already has, sometimes our clients prefer something new (nothing wrong with that)! We also encounter projects where there was no container to begin with and it’s now just a matter of finding the perfect bowl, tray or bin to make a home’s new entryway sing. Now, more than ever, we are conscious about buying more than just a container you can find at a big-box retail store. We like it when products have a back-story and even more so when they help other folks in need (hello, ever heard of Tom’s shoes)??!

So when Sheeva of Local + Lejos reached out to me to give her baskets a test run, I was all ears. Well, actually, not at first because I didn’t know about the company. But now that I do, I’m like, “YES PLEASE!” When you buy one of their baskets, you are directly helping families in Guatemala, India, Rwanda and Mexico. You can read more about their do-gooding here and here (and not to short-change their efforts but can we please get back to the containers)??

I am a sucker for baskets (it’s not a secret). I also hoard throw pillows and succulents (these three categories are typically things that organizers keep plenty of around. I actually don’t know this to be 100% true but it’s quite possible so I’m not going to rule it out).

My favorite way to use these little guys (aka Zera & Muhanga bowls) is to plop them where I store my jewelry and voila, it’s organized. By type is best (all rings together, bracelets together — you know, the ‘like with like’ organizing principle. They are also affordable and it’s probably a safe bet to double down and give them as gifts to your gal-pals that are decor savvy.

My hub is also a stickler for having a home for the remotes (I know, it’s so cliché, but true). And sometimes a few odds and ends end up in this basket as well; like earbuds and phone chargers.

And finally, an organizers favorite word (besides ‘label-maker’) has to be ‘repurpose’; if we can get 2-3 alternate uses out of an item, it might as well be gold in our book. You should also check out the ways in which Local + Lejos repurposes their lot over on their super duper Instagram feed. It’s pretty great and you’re bound to get more ideas on different ways to organize your stuff. #sweet

beautiful baskets! I use a salt bowl for my rings (it was the perfect size, pretty and jumped into my hand to come home with me) :)

Ha! I like that it jumped into your hand; that has happened to me once or twice:)! Sometimes you just have to have it and when that happens, there’s no question!

I use baskets all the time- Love them, I have workout videos and accessories, remotes and Crystals in baskets. For my bracelets ( I have a lot of them) I use a Vase that I had a hard time parting with. I don’t often buy a large bunch of flowers so, its not used for that but was taking up space in my cupboard. It’s perfect and pretty for holding my bracelets and I can see through it so I can find the one I want.
